Victor Medrano Olivo Jr.

Victor Medrano Olivo Jr. passed away at age 83 on August 11th, 2025 to eternal peace with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Victor Jr’s laughter, smile and kind spirit lit up every room he entered with his joy, humor, quick wit, deep faith in God and his love for others. His greatest joys were being a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and living his Catholic faith in his daily life. He was born in Mathis, Texas and was the youngest of 11 children. His parents were Victor and Genoveva Medrano Olivo. He proudly served our country as a combat veteran in Vietnam in the 1st Infantry Division of the United States Army, also known as "Big Red One". Victor Jr. was awarded the Bronze Star during his time in combat. After serving in Vietnam, he married Dora Garcia Flores. Victor Jr. attended Del Mar College, Wharton Jr. College and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Prairie View A&M University. They have two sons, Victor Olivo III and Geraldo Olivo. He worked for Geophysical Data in Houston and Boston and then founded Olivo Insurance Agency with Farmers Insurance in1978 and became one of first Mexican-American Farmers Insurance agents in Fort Bend County. Victor's entrepreneurial spirit, business savvy, dedication to his customers and hard work ethic helped him become one of top producing Farmers Insurance agents in the country for many years. He was a successful businessman who also had a fierce passion for fighting for civil rights, educational advancement and political and economic empowerment of Latinos locally and nationally. He held leadership positions in the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Fort Bend Voter Registration Education Project (FBVREP) under the guidance of Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP), Houston-Galveston Area Council served under Mayor Ben Babovec and was President of the Green Hornets Youth Football Team for several years. Victor proudly supported his wife, Dora Olivo, in her community work to empower those without a voice and in her campaigns running for Texas State Representative. He helped her become one of the first Latina's elected to the Texas Legislature from Fort Bend County in 1996 and helped her campaign during the time she held office from 1996 to 2010. Victor Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Genoveva Medrano Olivo; sisters, Tomasa Sanchez, Concepcion Cardona, Ofelia Isabel Aleman, Consuelo Huerta and Juanita Leal, Angelita Ponce; brothers, Juan Olivo, Jose Olivo and Jesus Olivo. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dora Olivo, sons, Victor Olivo III (Megan) and Geraldo Olivo (Amber), grandchildren, Victor Olivo IV(Cadia), Roman Olivo, Sophia Grace Olivo, Analise Trinity Olivo, great grandson, Jonah Olivo; sister, Florinda Aguilar and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins extended family and friends. Ceremony schedule: Visitation/Rosary: Monday, August 18th. Viewing from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Rosary at 7pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 514 Carlisle St, Rosenberg, TX 77471 Funeral Mass: Tuesday, August 19th – 10:00am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 514 Carlisle St, Rosenberg, TX 77471.
